Ukrainian orphanage resigns of fleeing to Poland as result of Russian propaganda against American aid

A smearing campaign targeted at a group of Americans who have rescued Ukrainian kids from an orphanage in Mariupol, Ukraine, caused another Ukraininan orphanage to resign of accepting such help. The children from Vinnytsia, Ukraine, will stay in the country despite their lives being threatened. “They’d rather risk Russian bombs in Ukraine than be a tool in Russian propaganda here in Poland,” said pastor Matthew Shea, representing the Loving Families and Homes for Orphans organization. “Only Russian-style propaganda could turn a rescue mission of orphans into something bad,” he added.

The campaign of harassing the kids rescued from the Ukrainian orphanage thanks to the cooperation of American, Ukrainian and Polish volunteers has been on for several days. It’s accompanied by a smearing campaign aimed at those who have been helping the kids. The police have entered the premises of the resort-like facility in Kazimierz Dolny, Poland, where children are staying for times already, jeopardizing kids’ well-being. Preposterous rumors are being spread about the Americans who are said to be trying to smuggle the kids illegally, planning to sell them for organ harvesting. The slanderous rumors, making use of some false information from Wikipedia, have already caused another Ukrainian orphanage, in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, to resign of being evacuated to Poland.

We are calling journalists to write the truth about the situation to stop treating the rescuers as criminals.

Pastor Matthew Shea is an active member of the American organization “Loving Families and Homes for Orphans” which has been helping to adopt Ukrainian orphans by Ukrainian families in the USA. Adoption procedures have been carried out in cooperation with both American and Ukrainian governments and are authorized by courts. When the war broke out, the children from the Mariupol orphanage asked Americans for help and they were rescued. Another rescue mission has been planned, namely to rescue some orphans from Vinnytsia. Some of the rescued kids have already visited the USA and have found adopting families there. The adoption procedures required a Ukrainian court authorization which is not possible in the current situation. Americans did not leave the orphans at the mercy of Russian invaders, though. They took care of them, evacuating the kids to a safe place in Poland. And now the Russian propaganda is trying to smear the rescuers as criminals.

Pastor Shea is a lawyer. He’s been elected to the House of Representatives four times. Before that he served in the army for 10 years. He was deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina , Iraq and Kuwait. He left the army in the rank of a captain. As a soldier he was awarded with several medals: Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, NATO Medal, Order of St. Maurice, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and others. In recognition of the service to his country pastor Shea was awarded with: Guardian of Small Business (2012), Defender of Freedom Award (2013), National Security Eagle Award (2015), State Representative of the Year (2015) and others.

Pastor Shea about his involvement in rescuing Ukrainian orphans in the face of the Russian invasion:

“When you have children in very dire distress, and they’re asking for help, you go and help. […] Unfortunately, there have been some elements here in Poland that have been helping to disrupt the humanitarian relief we’re providing to the orphans with lies and rumors. What’s very unfortunate about this situation is that those lies and rumors right now are preventing another orphanage from coming to Poland. They’re saying, “We would rather risk the Russian bombs in Ukraine than be a tool in Russian propaganda here in Poland.” […] The most outrageous rumor is that we want to sell the children for organ harvesting. This is Russian-style propaganda. And only Russian-style propaganda could turn a rescue mission of orphans into something bad.”

The American pastor emphasized,

“The Ukrainian consul representative came to the facility (in Kazimierz Dolny), he saw the facility and he stamped with an acknowledgement […] there is no objection to the facility. […] There’s rumor out there that we ran through the woods in the middle of the night while we went through the Polish border checkpoint.”

Pastor Shea pointed out that harassing the evacuated Ukrainian children is breaking international law.

“The Fourth Geneva Convention very clearly addresses this issue: when there are two warring parties, they must allow for children to be evacuated to a friendly neutral country. […] Slander, attacks clearly violate the spirit behind this international law.”

Pastor Paweł Chojecki, editor-in-chief of the Go Against the Tide TV commented the situation:

“The hate campaign […] has reached Poles living in the USA and pastor Matt Shea’s friends. I don’t think the whole thing is spontaneous, as nobody gets such broad reach with a stupid post on the Internet. […] This is a deliberate action aimed at harming the humanitarian aid for the children from Ukraine and disuniting Poles and Americans as well as pushing away volunteers.”

Pastor Chojecki made an appeal to honest journalists:

“I really hope some honest journalist will turn up and, instead of escalating the hatred and treating heroes as criminals, they will write the truth. […] “Write the truth for the sake of the well-being of the over sixty children saved from Putin’s shells and bombs!”

Police intervention has stressed out the orphans from Ukraine! – says the director of the resort where the children found shelter

Children from the orphanage in Mariupol, saved from the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, are under the careful care of a group of American and Polish Christians from Protestant communities and from the Against the Tide TV, who cooperated in organizing the rescue mission, the director and employees of the resort in Kazimierz Dolny, as well as doctors. Unfortunately, some people became active and exposed children to further annoyances and unnecessary stress, leading to the entry of uniformed police and outsiders into the House of Journalists. “The children were frightened by the fact that uniformed people entered” – said the director of the resort, Dariusz Popławski. “What happened should be assessed unequivocally and very strictly, regardless of the motivation” – Michał Fałek from the New Covenant Church in Lublin added.

On social media, there appeared some alarming posts about alleged problems with the lack of food or the removal of Ukrainian children who are in Poland as refugees. Outsiders, concerned about such news, made police officers enter the House of Journalists in Kazimierz Dolny on Saturday.

“Some local activists appeared […] with the suspicion that some harm is happening to the children of the orphanage. […] They did not say where they got these suspicions from. I guess, however, that it was from social media because I saw screenshots of posts that were later deleted, but they were posts alarming that something bad was happening here” – Michał Fałek reported on Against the Tide TV. He added: “It was not necessary to act this way on the spot and come with grievances, accusations – as if we or the Americans were guilty[…]”.

According to Dariusz Popławski, the director of the resort in Kazimierz Dolny, police officers came without first contacting him. The atmosphere of the talks was tense, and the children, who just entered a safe space after fleeing the war-torn country, could witness the whole situation. According to the director, the police received from the American guardians all the documents regarding the Ukrainian children and it turned out that everything was in order. Popławski did not hide his regret over how this matter was dealt with. “Disgust remained,” he said.

Reporting on the reaction of the Americans, Michał Fałek said that they were shocked. “They said that the worst thing that happened to them was that situation, on that day, in Poland. Going to Ukraine, seeing what they saw there, was not as stressful as what they were dealing with here when everything was supposed to be fine.”

After these events, pastor Paweł Chojecki appealed on Against the Tide TV to the authorities, police, prosecutor’s office, and local authorities:

“Do not treat Protestants as suspects by definition! I think that the religious field – the fact that it was the Against the Tide TV, the New Covenant Church in Lublin, and American pastors saving these children – that was the decisive factor for the officials or police officers to let themselves be tricked by haters, fools or Putin’s trolls so easily. If a parish priest or a Catholic bishop did it, there would certainly be no such reaction.”

62 Ukrainian orphans evacuated and saved in successful American-Ukrainian-Polish action

62 children from a Ukrainian orphanage, along with their two caregivers, arrived in Poland this morning. The rescue action was started by a former American politician, now serving as a pastor, Matthew Shea and his Ukrainian wife, Viktoria. On the Polish side the action was coordinated by pastors Paweł Chojecki and Radosław Kopeć from the New Covenant Church in Lublin, both representing the Against the Tide TV. The transport from Mariupol to Lviv was organized by Ukrainian pastors. Two Polish bus drivers were the unsung heroes of the action. Mayor of Lublin Krzysztof Żuk and the Help For Ukraine Center were quick to react and helped a great deal as well.

This grass-roots action has already been reported in American media.

On Wednesday pastor Matthew Shea, along with a group of Christians from Spokane, Washington, arrived in Warsaw to start the rescue mission and save 62 children from an orphanage in Mariupol, Ukraine. After a few-hour rest and a visit in the Against the Tide TV head office, Americans set out to Ukraine.

In the meantime, 62 children and their caregivers were evacuated from Mariupol and spent the night in Dnieper. They met their American rescuers after a 16-hour long train journey.

American ABC TV got interested in the story.

After several dozen hours, at the crack of dawn, a column comprising a minibus and two coaches arrived at the destination point.

In the Americans’ opinion the whole mission was a God’s miracle. After several dozen sleepless hours, when they finally managed to sit down and rest, they said, “We made it! With God’s help, we made it! Thank you, our Polish friends!” Then, along with the Poles from the Against the Tide TV, they praised God in prayer.

Pastor Shea and pastor Chojecki met in the USA in 2018.

PETITION TO PRESIDENT DUDA ON BEIJING 2022 BOYCOTT

On petitions.net, a petition on the boycott of the Olympic Games in communist China was launched. The document is addressed to President Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The author of the petition – pastor Paweł Chojecki, editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV, appeals to the President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland not to participate in the Games, which are to be held in 2022 in Beijing. Pastor Chojecki draws attention to the fact that a short distance from the Olympic Village there are concentration camps and prisons for political opponents of the Chinese regime. In his opinion, Poles should boycott the Games in solidarity with those who are persecuted. Pastor Chojecki emphasizes that the President’s visit to Beijing during the Games would bring disgrace to the people of Poland and their glorious history.
The text of the petition is presented below:
Mr. President, Mr. Prime Minister,
We appeal to you not to participate in the events related to the 24th Winter Olympic Games, which are to take place in communist China in 2022. Not far from the Olympic Village, there are concentration camps and prisons for political opponents of the totalitarian regime.
The people of Poland have been respected for centuries for standing up for freedom, not only their own but also someone else’s. The motto “For our freedom and yours” and the ethos of the “Solidarity” movement oblige us not to support the criminal regimes that are currently committing genocide, violating fundamental freedoms and human rights, and are aimed, like Hitler and Stalin, at conquering the whole world.
You have been elected to your positions not to pursue your own sympathies or political interests, but to represent the Nation of Poland with dignity. Your visit to Beijing during the Winter Games would bring disgrace to contemporary Poland and our glorious history, which is why we are addressing this petition to you.
We hope that you will act with honor.
Sincerely,
Pastor Paweł Chojecki
editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV
“This petition is a tribute to all the persecuted people in Communist China. This is our voice expressing that we remember them” – pastor Chojecki said. “This campaign is also for people who will spend Christmas in communist China. It is not acceptable for us to celebrate the communist regime through the presence of our politicians at the Olympics,” he added.
Hanna Shen, our correspondent in Taiwan, stressed that the Olympic Games are a propaganda event in which two of the most dangerous people – Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin – will take part. Hanna Shen stated that anyone who joins the event will join the criminal community, and all those who respect freedom and respect other people should not participate in the Games. In her opinion, the participation of politicians in the Games is the destruction of the image of Poland in the international arena as a country of solidarity, which stands up and fights for its own freedom and the freedom of others.
According to Hanna Shen, we can only influence the media and politicians by putting pressure on them – we can achieve this by signing this petition, sending it to our friends and journalists – to their social media accounts.
In November this year, Pastor Paweł Chojecki wrote an official letter to the President of the Republic of Poland – Andrzej Duda, in which he asked whether the President intends to participate in the 24th Olympic Games in Beijing. The letter reached the Chancellery of the President but remained unanswered. Meanwhile, some countries are openly boycotting the Olympic Games, which are to be held in China. The first of the countries was Lithuania, later joined by the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Belgium, and Kosovo. Pastor Chojecki hopes that thanks to this petition, Poland will also join the above list.

Polish government-run TV has to apologize to a protestant Church for calling it a “sect”! The Warsaw court has the verdict.

Today, the District Court in Warsaw has decided that government-run Polish Television (TVP), tax-financed, has to apologize to the New Covenant Church in Lublin for calling it a “secret Lublin sect”. The case is about an article on the TVP Info website from October 2019. At the hearing, Samuel Pereira from TVP and pastor Paweł Chojecki from New Covenant Church in Lublin spoke.

TVP’s article calling New Covenant Church in Lublin a “sect”

TVP is to apologize to the Church of the New Covenant in Lublin for calling it a “secret Lublin sect” in an article published on the TVP Info portal, headed by Samuel Pereira at the time.

The apology is to be posted on the website and on TVP’s Twitter account.

Shortly after the announcement of the sentence, Pastor Paweł Chojecki commented on the case in the live program of Against the Tide TV. He said that he knew Samuel Pereira personally and that they had participated in patriotic demonstrations together.
