We know the court decision in the trial of Pastor Chojecki!

January 31, 2023 in Lublin, an appeal hearing was held in the trial of Pastor Pawel Chojecki, editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV. The pastor of the New Covenant Church in Lublin is on trial for words – a few sentences from sermons and other programs aired on the web TV he runs, which were disliked by a group of hecklers and the Law and Justice party prosecution.
At the hearing, the Court of Appeals decided to adjourn the hearing to April 13 due to new evidence requests submitted by the defense and a request to interview other Protestant pastors who confirm that what Pastor Chojecki says and believes is part of the broad Protestant mainstream. As a reminder, if the Court of Appeals in Lublin convicts the pastor, there is no longer any possibility of appeal in Poland.
During the hearing, the audience was presented with recordings of Pastor Chojecki’s statements that allegedly offended the religious feelings of the accusers. The wide-ranging audience applauded the views presented by the pastor. T-shirts and banners reading “freedom of speech for everyone” and “Support Pastor Chojecki” dominated the audience.

Pastor Chojecki commented on the hearing as follows:

“Today I was really grateful to the High Court for making it possible that so many people today had the opportunity to learn about the truth of Protestant views and sound political views. The accusers want to limit our freedom of speech, criticism of Catholic dogma and criticism of the Pope, the bishops, as well as political criticism. We do not accept this. God willing, these clippings, which are being let loose in court today, will be seen by all of Poland. Anyway, the public reacted unequivocally to what they had the opportunity to hear in court, for which I have been on trial for several years now.”

Recall that the court of first instance sentenced Pastor Chojecki to eight months of restriction of liberty in the form of community service. In addition, the pastor must pay the costs of the proceedings in the amount of nearly PLN 21,000.

Pastor Pawel Chojecki has repeatedly argued to the court that he did not mean to insult President Duda, for whom, by the way, he once voted, but constructive criticism to make the head of state reflect and fulfill his election promises. In his pre-Christmas program “Will Pastor Chojecki Apologize to President Duda?” on Against the Tide TV, Pastor Chojecki apologized to the president for the harsh words he had used against him, and acknowledged that given how President Duda is acting now, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he would no longer call him a coward.

Regarding accusations of insulting the religious feelings of Catholics, Pastor Chojecki points out that as a Protestant he criticizes the dogmas of the Catholic Church, pointing out that they are incompatible with the Bible. As for the accusations of insulting Catholic objects of religious reverence, it must be stressed that these accusations are also about words – there was no real insulting of objects of Catholic reverence. The other accusations the pastor calls bizarre.

On November 22, 2022, the appellate court adjourned the case until January 31, as the subsidiary accuser submitted further recordings to show that Pastor Chojecki continues his activities (sic!). In the video below, you can see what the accusers believe Protestants are not allowed to say!

Four appeals have been filed to the verdict of the court of first instance. In Pastor Chojecki’s defense, the law firm of legal counsel Adam Wroblewski, the law firm of attorney Andrzej Sawicki and the law firm of attorney Andrzej Turczyn filed an appeal. The appeal was also filed by prosecutor Katarzyna Urban, demanding a prison sentence!

Who are the accusers of Pastor Pawel Chojecki?

Some of them are facing criminal proceedings for harassing the pastor, his family, and the New Covenant Church in Lublin. They didn’t even spare the pastor’s grandson, calling him the “Antichrist.” They poured fecal matter on the Church’s headquarters and incited physical violence against the pastor. They run insulting websites for the environment of Against the Tide Television, which often contain threats and criminal threats against members of the editorial staff.

One of the accusers was found guilty by the court of insulting Jews; anti-Semitic phrases were included in the titles of materials they submitted to the prosecutor’s office, and one of the accusers wrote anti-Semitic books (“It is surprising that during such a prestigious cultural event as the Historical Book Fair, publications of an anti-Semitic nature were promoted, including Ritual Murder in Rzeszow? A Historical Investigation or Wise Men of Zion – A New Opening by Radoslaw Patlewicz,” WP Books). There is also anti-Ukrainian content in the comments of this community.

Who is Pastor Pawel Chojecki?

He was raised as an atheist. However, in adulthood he decided to become a Christian.

Today he is the pastor and founder of the New Covenant Church in Lublin, as well as the creator and editor-in-chief of the Internet TV, magazine and publishing house “Against the Tide.”

In 1986, in the “Vistula” Hall in Cracow, at the age of 23, Pawel Chojecki makes the most groundbreaking decision of his life. He realizes that Jesus is not just a figure from history but is alive now and close to every person. “Then I realized that Jesus died on the Cross to pay the penalty for my sins, to free me from eternal hell. God said in the Bible that I can’t earn salvation with good works, that the one who can save me is Jesus alone – and He wants to save me for free, regardless of my works! That’s when my wife and I asked Jesus to save us here and now.” – Pastor Chojecki recalls today.

In 1988, he and his friends founded the Lublin Christian Association “Reconciliation” and began publishing the monthly magazine “Reconciliation” and printing Christian books in small editions on a duplicator.

However, he quickly discovers that the Roman Catholic Church is not based on the Bible, but on human dogmas that contradict it. He realizes that it is not the Bible, but the Church’s Teaching Office that is the highest authority in the organization, and that for salvation according to Catholicism it is not enough what Jesus did on the Cross of Golgotha, but sacraments and so-called good works are needed.

In 1989, he decides to leave Catholicism.

He establishes the church Christian Community “Reconciliation” and heads the “Reconciliation” Publishing House.

In 1996, the pastor establishes the New Covenant Church in Lublin, which is entered in the Register of Churches and Other Religious Associations.

In 2003, Pawel Chojecki begins publishing a Christian socio-political monthly “Against the Tide” and becomes its editor-in-chief.

In 2008, Pastor Chojecki starts the Against the Tide online television station.

8 years later, on February 1, 2016, Paul Chojecki launches a daily program on IPP TV dedicated to commenting on current topics. Live viewership is frequently among the world’s top YouTube sites. The programs have ranges from several thousand to several hundred thousand viewers. The pastor’s trademark is becoming waving a New Testament in front of the cameras, of which IPP TV has since distributed many thousands of copies across Poland.

Pastor Chojecki initiated the Megachurch project, an initiative to evangelize Poland based on four pillars: strong local churches, modern media, a Christian university and Christians in politics.

The motto of his ministry is: “Zeal for your house will consume me” from John 2:17.

“Freedom of speech is for me..” – a campaign has been launched!

There is no free media without freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is the basis of social functioning. Unfortunately, in our country in many cases it is restricted.* Therefore, we have launched a campaign, encouraging Poles to make video clips with their definitions of freedom of speech.

How to join the campaign?

Record a maximum fifteen-second long video, in which you say: “Freedom of speech is for me…” and then say what freedom of speech means to you.

Post it on a story or a roll on Instagram or make a post on Facebook and tag our TV station. The hashtag #SupportPastorChojecki is welcome, as well as a card with the caption:

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

#SupportPastorChojecki

We’ll continue to pass on your videos on our social media to create a collective definition of freedom of speech.

Let’s show the authorities how important it is for Poles to speak freely. We don’t have to agree with each other. But even if we are divided by our views, what unites us is that we want to have the right to express them freely.

*Violations of freedom of speech are evidenced, for example, by the trial of Pastor Paweł Chojecki, our editor-in-chief, who was indicted by Zbigniew Ziobro’s Prosecutor’s Office for what he said about, among other things, the Catholic Church

You can learn MORE about the trial in the report “Will they lock up Pastor Chojecki? What is the verdict of the appeal?”

AGAINST THE TIDE TV NEWSLETTER – SUMMARY 2022

Join us on a journey through the highlights of 2022 in Against the Tide TV and the Megachurch project

War

This year will definitely be remembered as the time when Russia attacked Ukraine.

On February 24 at 4:45 a.m. local time, Russian troops from Russia, Belarus, and occupied Crimea and Donbas entered Ukraine.

The editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV commented on the event: It should be made clear that Putin was not punished for [what he did in] 2014, and that is why he did what he did today. If [there had been] a reaction of the West to the annexation of Crimea and the rise of Putin’s puppet states, which have now asked for intervention, we would not have a war at the borders of Poland, the EU, and NATO today. This is breeding a Russian Hitler and we’re seeing the result of that.

In the first days of the war, in late February and early March, Christians from the US, Poland, and Ukraine jointly organized the evacuation of 62 orphans from Mariupol. The action was initiated by American pastor Matt Shea together with his wife Viktoria, who is from Ukraine. On the Polish side, it was coordinated by Pastor Pawel Chojecki and Pastor Radoslaw Kopeć of the New Covenant Church in Lublin, as well as the entire editorial staff of Against the Tide TV. The mayor of Lublin, Krzysztof Żuk, and people from the Lublin Assistance Center for Ukraine, who helped organize accommodations at the House of Creative Work of the Association of Polish Journalists in Kazimierz Dolny, reacted promptly. The director of the center, Dariusz Poplawski, and his Staff, also showed big hearts and help.

On the initiative of the New Covenant Church in Lublin, evangelical Christians in Poland sent an open letter to President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which they expressed their support for his actions taken in defense of his homeland and assured that in their prayers they ask God for the complete victory of Ukraine over the Evil Empire – Putin’s Russia.

Responding to the spiritual upheaval among Poles and Ukrainians, a few days after the outbreak of war, we issued an evangelistic leaflet and prepared an animation called “So it is War then!” which answers the questions: Why are there wars in the world? Why do people hurt each other? Why does God allow it?

In May, we issued an additional evangelization leaflet – “Putin’s Pope.” It became the basis for an animated clip with the same title.

We also developed a weekly Bible reading plan entitled “The Bible in Wartime” to help Poles come to terms with war just across our border.

A Ukrainian website has also been set up, where we post our materials in Ukrainian.

We have also started a course of free Polish language lessons for pastors and Christian leaders from Ukraine at introductory, basic and intermediate levels. You can also find some of the lessons on our channel.

In addition, we have prepared #PrayForUkraine t-shirts, bags and pinners with a logo designed by Olga Kurysh, a young Ukrainian.

We are also raising money to support both refugees and Ukraine’s freedom fighters. To this day, we are still actively helping to organize the necessary aid for those fighting on the front and transporting needed items. We have also helped a number of Christians in the United States who have transported aid from the US to Ukraine.

Against the Tide TV has been actively involved in commenting on events across our eastern border and obtaining first-hand news.

Our guest was Oleksandr Turchinov, former Acting President of Ukraine, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2007 to 2010 and former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Oleksandr Turchynov is also a preacher at a Protestant Baptist Church and a soldier in the Territorial Defense. In an interview, he said that it is very important that people don’t simply go to their deaths, but that they understand that when they give their lives, they express the highest level of love. This is what the Bible says, he added. He also said that many strong believers among Ukrainians are not afraid of death, because they know they have eternal life. A true believer is more courageous and also more responsible. Turchinov also emphasized that many people turn to God under circumstances and he has seen soldiers turn to God before going into battle – when they take risks when they face the risk of death.

Kira Rudyk, a parliamentarian of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, has also been our guest several times. During one of our talks, she told us about her visit to the site of Russian crimes in Ukraine and appealed to all world leaders: I call on all world leaders. Now, while everyone is procrastinating and hesitating to give us weapons, the same nightmares are happening in other cities occupied by the Russian army, only we can’t see it yet. That’s why I call on everyone who hears – if you don’t help us stop it, you are responsible too.

We also interviewed Dmytro Matiuchin, director of the Zaporizhzhia City Assistance Center and head of the Social Pastoral Department of the Baptist Union of Ukraine. He has been helping refugees from eastern Ukraine since 2014, and currently resides in Zaporizhzhya, where he coordinates charitable assistance.

In April, our guest was Victor Olivares, a journalist from Mexico’s second-largest television station Azteca Noticias, who came to report on the current situation of Mariupol orphans rescued thanks to the cooperation of Christians from the US, Ukraine and Poland. Editor Olivares made an appearance on our television. He spoke about his idea of awarding Poland the Nobel Peace Prize for helping refugees from Ukraine. He also expressed great gratitude to all Poles who are so actively involved in helping Ukrainians flee war.

On August 24, we celebrated Ukraine’s Independence Day. We dedicated a special edition of the Against the Tide LIVE program, and also participated in the “Heart for Ukraine” concert organized by Ukrainian churches, the Future of Ukraine’s Children Foundation and the Baptist Church in Poland. The Ukrainians especially recognized five people, local leaders personally involved in helping our neighbors. Among them was the head of Against the Tide TV, Pastor Pawel Chojecki.

Everything that we have achieved so far has been possible thanks to God’s blessing, thanks to the generosity and support of our viewers, and thanks to the hard work of a talented and well-coordinated team.

We are not paid by any means by the government, political parties, corporations, or any other groups and therefore, we can work completely independently and achieve such success in reaching Poles with the truth.

Cooperation with other churches and Christian circles:

In 2022, we established intensive cooperation with churches and evangelical organizations.

In January, we conducted a series of programs on the topic of Christian business, during which we hosted Zdzislaw Miara – one of the founders of CROWN Financial Education, whose mission is to guide people to learn and apply God’s principles in managing their finances, talents, and careers.

Also in January, we visited Cieszyn Silesia, and Against the Tide TV prepared reports on a visit to Christians from the Lutheran Church in Wisla Malinka and the Lutheran church in Dzięgielów.

In March, Pastor Ireneusz Dawidowicz of the Baptist Church in Bialystok delivered a series of lectures entitled “The Bible and Psychology”.

We had the opportunity to visit Pastor Dawidowicz in Bialystok, where he co-leads the “Toward Good Hope” association. On our channel, you will find a report on how Christians help people who are homeless and struggling with addictions.

In April, we organized a workshop on the topic of evangelism, led by missionaries of the Mt28 Christian Movement.

We also established cooperation with the Chelm Baptist Church concerning helping Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, Chelm Baptists have helped more than four thousand refugees from Ukraine.

In early May, we held a conference of pastors and Christian leaders entitled “Evangelization of Poles and Ukrainians to meet dynamic cultural and international changes.” We discussed what should be the response of evangelical Christian circles to the changes taking place and how to use the openness and stirring of hearts resulting from the war in Ukraine in evangelism.

In Lublin, we also hosted pastors and Christian leaders from Poland and Ukraine, who together want to seek new opportunities to reach Poles and Ukrainians with the gospel. A special guest at the conference was Joe Losiak, co-founder of the Oasis movement and associate of Fr. Franciszek Blachnicki.

The fruit of the conference was a joint letter in which the pastors supported the initiative of President Zelensky and other politicians to strengthen relations between Poland, Ukraine and other countries in our region. The letter was signed by Pastors Pawel Chojecki, Radoslaw Kopeć, Pawel Machala and Michal Falek of the New Covenant Church in Lublin, Pastor Henryk Skrzypkowski of the Baptist Church in Chelm, Pastor Ireneusz Dawidowicz of the “Salvation Road” church of the Baptist Church in Poland, Pastor Andrey Hlopkov of the “Grace of Christ” Church of God in Krakow, Pastor Oleksandr Moroz of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Warsaw, and Joe Losiak.

In June, a convention of Christians was held, whose special guests were the rector of the largest and oldest Bible seminary in Ukraine, Pastor of the Baptist Church in Kyiv Dr. Igor Yaremchuk and his wife Lena.

During this convention, Pastor Dr. Igor Yaremchuk and Pastor Pavel Chojecki decided to establish the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin.

Pastor Yaremchuk said, We have 830 students and 70 staff members, who are now spread all over the world. Wherever they are scattered, we want to open branches of the seminary in Irpin. And our dream is for such a branch to be established in Lublin. Praise God that we decided with Pastor Paul Chojecki to start this process. On the one hand, we will teach, on the other hand, we will build a community. We know that from this a closer bond between the Polish and Ukrainian churches can result. We want to open such branches also in Germany, the Czech Republic and Italy. But since Poland was the first to welcome us, we are starting here!

During the convention, we organized a Polish-Ukrainian Praise Concert in Lublin’s Lithuanian Square. The music band of the Ukrainian Church of God “Grace of Christ” in Cracow and the music band “Against the Tide” of the New Covenant Church in Lublin gave glory to God by singing. Speeches were delivered by Pastor Dr. Igor Yaremchuk, Pastor Andrey Hlopkov and Pastor Pavel Chojecki.

During the convention, a series of creationist lectures on what we can learn about human history from genetic research on the Y chromosome were delivered by Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson of Harvard University, author of the books Replacing Darwin and Traced.

Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute

August 20 saw the inauguration of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin – a project of Christian educational space, in which we want to educate future Christian leaders together. The Institute also aims to exchange the experiences of Christians from Poland and Ukraine and to create a vision of ministry leading to the evangelization of our nations, as well as the nations of the Three Seas area.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Pastor Pavel Chojecki of the New Covenant Church in Lublin and Roman Loboda, a Baptist Christian from Zaporizhzhia, who, through Against the Tide TV, has helped to bring together Ukrainian Christians and Christians from the New Covenant Church in Lublin.

A total of 5 sessions have already taken place and more are planned once a month from February to June 2023.

Against the Tide productions

2022 was also full of productions and publications

January saw the premiere of the documentary film “Where is the file of John Paul II?” produced by Against the Tide TV and directed by Szymon Żuk. The film presents little-known facts from the life of Karol Wojtyla and tries to answer the questions of who Pope John Paul II really was, whether he really contributed to the fall of communism and why we do not know the full contents of his file kept by the Security Service.

In March, a cover of the MercyMe song “I can only imagine ” performed by Hanna Jazgarska appeared on our channel.

April saw the premiere of another documentary film produced by Against the Tide TV “Rescued from Mariupol,” directed by Szymon Żuk. The film reports on the heroic evacuation of more than sixty orphans from war-stricken Ukraine to Poland. The film has been made available in Polish, English and Ukrainian.

A tour by the Christian band Celebrant Singers took place in July under the media auspices of Against the Tide TV. The group, which performed in Poland and the Czech Republic in July, was founded in 1977 by Jon Stemkoski, an adopted child of Polish emigrants. The Celebrant Singers have already performed in more than a hundred countries, playing for more than 8 million people.

Our TV covered the tour extensively, and also prepared and published the live concert of Celebrant Singers and Dajuks & Missio Musica, which took place at the Lublin Philharmonic.

In October, we reported on the scientific conference “Father Francis Blachnicki. Scientist – Visionary – Practitioner” organized at the Catholic University of Lublin. During the event, we interviewed people who got to know Father Blachnicki.

In addition, two novelties of the POD PRĄD publishing house were released in October:

  • „A Flash in the Pan. From the History of the Polish Reformation” by Piotr Setkowicz
  • „Jesus Revolution. Discipleship without reservations” by Joe Losiak

Both books are available in our online store.

On November 11, we returned with Against the Tide TV News, which airs Monday through Friday at 5 pm.

In November, we also created an anti-communist rap in support of the protests going on in Communist China.
[RAP]

In December, we launched a new project, “Priest at the Crossroads,” which also has a media dimension. Once a month we will broadcast a program dedicated to priests and nuns. On Friday, December 23, we aired the first episode titled “A Priest’s Loneliness at Christmas.”

And on December 24 (Christmas Eve), „Adventures of Romeczek” returned – this time as an animation full of Christmas magic. In this episode, Romeczek listened to the tale of Maurice Baton and the unruly Wound Orchestra.

Return to meetings and open events

The year 2022 also marked the return of live meetings and open events attended by guests from outside the community.

In June, together with editor Hanna Shen, we held a screening of the film “The Betrayal of Formosa,” which tells the story of an FBI agent during Chiang Kai-shek’s dictatorship in Taiwan in the 1980s.

In October, on the occasion of the 505th anniversary of the Reformation, we organized a screening of the film “Luther” at our headquarters.

To celebrate Reformation Day, on the last day of October, we organized the All Saints’ Ball, which featured a recital of Christian songs. Above all, it was an opportunity to spend time together and celebrate in a joyful atmosphere.

In December, Against the Tide TV organized a screening of the film “The Hong Konger”. It was the first-ever screening of this movie with Polish subtitles. The film tells the story of Jimmy Lai, a businessman and publisher of the Apple Daily newspaper, who became a symbol of Hong Kong’s struggle for freedom.

Also in December, a Gospel for Christmas concert by Abraham Diomande took place at our headquarters. This concert will also be published soon on our YouTube channel.

THE PAST YEAR WAS ALSO FULL OF OTHER EVENTS:

In May, the 8th Against the Tide TV viewers’ convention “Poland and the World after the Catastrophe” was held, which was dedicated to the situation in Ukraine. Our guests talked about how to organize the world after the war with Putin and what the consequences of the war will be for the whole world. They also assessed the attitude of countries and their involvement in helping Ukraine, as well as communist China’s policy towards Russia’s aggression.

The centerpiece of the Convention was a debate, which was divided into four thematic panels: security, local government, health care and education. It featured speakers from various fields: politicians, experts, doctors, editors, local government officials and representatives of education.

The Convention was attended also by the former Minister of Agriculture, Chairman of the Council for Agriculture and Rural Affairs Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, who advocated the idea of a Polish-Ukrainian alliance: Strategic cooperation is needed in various areas, including Ukrainian and Polish agriculture. If Ukraine perseveres, God willing, then, as President Zelenski also said in his message to the Polish National Assembly, if Poland, Ukraine and smaller countries in our part of Europe, that is Three Seas region, manage to unite, being at the same time a strong counterweight to the Germans, to their domination, hegemony in this part of Europe… Now is the chance for our region to break out into independence. Poland with Ukraine can be absolute leaders in this change of geopolitical situation.

In July, Christians from Poland, Europe and North America came together for the annual Megachurch camp. During the camp, the focus was on worshipping God through daily communal singing and prayer and on rebuilding bonds that were weakened during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two weddings took place this year! Both were great celebrations in our project!

In July, Kasia and Piotr were married.

In October, the wedding of an editorial couple – Simon and Eunika – took place. This wedding was broadcast live and is available on our YouTube channel.

In October and November, two missionary groups left Poland! The first, led by Pastor Pawel Machala, headed to Great Britain and Ireland. The second, led by Pastor Radoslaw Kopeć, headed to the United States and Canada.

On November 22, after more than a year of waiting, an appeal hearing was held in the trial of Pastor Pawel Chojecki, editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV and pastor of the New Covenant Church in Lublin. The Court of Appeals in Lublin adjourned the case until January 31, 2023.

This is how Pawel Chojecki commented on the case: This is what I prayed for, that this trial would help awaken Poles from the conviction that we live in a normal democratic state. No, it’s not true, people are being oppressed here, hence more than 3 million people left, also because they couldn’t stand this suffocating atmosphere of lack of freedom and tolerance! May this trial inspire many people with hope, that not everyone will be broken, that it is possible to fight, that the state is not omnipotent, that there is still hope for Poland!

After a time of COVID stagnation, we are back to full-scale work, and we look forward to even greater things in the New Year!
Thank you for being with us and for the fact that each month more than 1,000 people support the Against the Tide TV project!
Together we are GOING FURTHER!

Appeal hearing in the trial of Pastor Pawel Chojecki

An appeal hearing was held on November 22 in the trial of Pastor Pawel Chojecki, editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV and pastor of the New Covenant Church in Lublin.

The appellate court adjourned the case until January 31, as the subsidiary accuser has submitted further recordings to show that Pastor Chojecki continues his online activities that offend the religious feelings of Catholics.

This is how Pastor Chojecki commented on the case: “This is what I prayed for, that this trial would help awaken Poles from the conviction that we live in a normal democratic state. No, it’s not true, people are oppressed here, more than 3 million people left this place because they could not stand this suffocating atmosphere of lack of freedom and tolerance! May this trial inspire many people with hope, that not everyone will be broken, that it is possible to fight, that the state is not omnipotent, that there is still hope for Poland!”.

Many pastors and Christians from Poland and abroad joined the #SupportPastorChojecki campaign. They expressed their support and assured of prayers. Also, those who disagree with Pastor Chojecki’s views expressed their opposition and indignation at the actions of the Polish state, which persecutes its citizens for their words.

To show Pastor Pavel Chojecki’s case, we created a short video. It is available on our channel in Polish, English, Ukrainian and German.

An interview with Pastor Chojecki about the trial conducted by The New American magazine was also recently published, while the John Birch Society created an online campaign to support the pastor’s case.

Paweł Chojecki was accused by a group of haters of insulting the religious feelings of Catholics, insulting Catholic objects of religious reverence, praising the initiation of a forward war against communist North Korea, and insulting the Polish Nation and the President of Poland. The court of first instance in 2021 sentenced him to eight months of restriction of liberty in the form of community service and reimbursement of nearly PLN 21,000 in legal fees.

In response to the verdict of the court of first instance, four appeals were filed: three in defense of Pastor Paweł Chojecki and one was filed by the prosecutor’s office, which seeks a suspended prison sentence. According to it, only a prison sentence and a fine will allow for the due realization of preventive and educational goals against the pastor “and will take due account of the needs for shaping the legal consciousness of society.”

The fourth congress of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin was held this month. The lecture part on the topic: “Will our generation carry out the great missionary command of Jesus in Poland?” was led by Joe Losiak and Pastor Pawel Chojecki. Joe Losiak, in three lectures, presented his perspective on the evangelization of modern Poland, and Pastor Pawel Chojecki, in his speech, pointed out those characteristics of churches and pastors that contribute to the spiritual growth of the church – in accordance with the testament of Jesus.

The Independence Day rally featured a concert by Jerzy and Malgorzata Dajuk, who performed together with musicians from the Missio Musica association.

We also interviewed Mr. and Mrs. Dajuk about their impressions after the concert and how Jesus changed their lives.

The lectures from the fourth convention will soon be on the YouTube channel of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute.

Those interested in the activities of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin are welcome to contact us: [email protected] and on the website lib.edu.pl, where we post current information about the Institute’s activities.

On December 3, the fifth congress of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin will be held. The lectures will be given by Ireneusz Dawidowicz – pastor of the “Way of Salvation” church of the Baptist Church in Poland and a psychologist with a clinical specialty.

American Thanksgiving evening

On the fourth Thursday of November, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day, which commemorates the arrival of a group of pilgrims to America on the Mayflower ship.

We also celebrated this holiday, thanking God for another great year. This is the 9th time we have held an American evening. The schedule for this year’s evening included a concert of American music, a tasting of American cuisine, a dance workshop, as well as games and activities together.

MP Tadeusz Cymanski justifies Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s words

MP Tadeusz Cymanski, attorney Artur Nowak and pastor Ireneusz Dawidowicz commented on Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s words about alcoholism among women. President Kaczynski proclaimed that women do not give birth to children because they drink, and announced a fight against this phenomenon. We asked our guests about whether it is within Kaczynski’s competence to educate the nation, and whether he is the right person to moralize his countrymen.

MP Tadeusz Cymanski was the only one to justify the President’s words, however, calling them “unfortunate.”

Comments on Pope Francis’ declaration that he is a communist

We also commented on the recent words of Pope Francis, who in an interview with “America” magazine declared that he is a communist and accused Jesus of communism. We talked about the connection between the pope’s pro-Russian views and the Catholic Church leader’s failure to take a clear position on the ongoing war in Ukraine.

WHAT’S NEW ON AGAINST THE TIDE TV?

  • We created an anti-communist rap in support of the protests in China. Up to dozens of people have been burned alive in Urumqi as a result of the Chinese government’s anti-covid policies. Protesters want Xi Jinping’s resignation. The protests have become known as the A4 Revolution – a blank sheet of A4 paper is a symbol of resistance to censorship and control by the Chinese Communist Party.
  • Christmas sales are underway at our online store.

WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON:

  • We are preparing for a Christmas concert in Lublin, which we especially want to target young audiences. We hope that the pre-Christmas period will also be a time of increased evangelization among students.
  • We are working on preparing another episode of the evening show for the youngest viewers.
  • Work is underway to expand our conference room stage.

Third convention of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin

On October 31, we celebrated the 505th anniversary of the Reformation. The third convention of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin was devoted to this topic. It was held under the motto: „Reformation in Poland – lessons for the modern people”. The history of the Reformation in Poland in the 16th and 17th century was brought to us by Piotr Setkowicz, an engineer by profession, historian by passion, author of the book “A Flash in the Pan. From the History of the Polish Reformation”. During this convention we tried to answer the questions: Why was it impossible to consolidate the gains of the Reformation at that time? What caused Polish Christians to give the field to the Catholic Counter-Reformation? Are we not currently duplicating the same mistakes? Are we Polish Christians able to meet the challenges posed by the modern world, culture and politics?

The Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin is the first such project in Poland. The main goal of the Institute is to integrate biblical Christians from Ukraine and Poland in order to implement joint evangelization and church projects and exchange experiences of working for Jesus in Ukraine and Poland, learn from each other and pray together for the future of our nations. During the school year, ten sessions will take place – one per month.

The lecturers are pastors, professors and Christian leaders drawn from various evangelical churches and organizations.

Those interested in the activities of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin are welcome to contact: [email protected]

Lectures are posted on the Institute’s YouTube channel.

To celebrate the Reformation Day, we organized the All Saints’ Ball, which included a recital of Christian songs. We also had the opportunity to listen to a message from pastors and, above all, spend time talking, playing and dancing together.

“Your Move” Foundation, to commemorate Reformation Day, created a flyer and a short video about what the Reformation was and what it means for Protestants.

Report from a conference about Father Francis Blachnicki

In October, we participated in a scientific conference “Father Franciszek Blachnicki. Scientist – Visionary – Practitioner” organized by the Catholic University of Lublin. We created a report on the event, in which we gave the floor to people who knew Father Blachnicki, his disciples, co-workers in the World-Life Movement. In the reportage we seek answers to the questions: what was the phenomenon of the reformer priest and what was the main purpose of his life. We have also posted on our channel a lecture “The actions of the secret services against Fr. F. Blachnicki,” given by former head of the Military Intelligence Service General Andrzej Kowalski.

Iranian woman Zeebandeh Abedini Bychuk on Against the Tide TV

Iranian Zeebandeh Abedini Bychuk commented on the ongoing protests in Iran which started on September 16 and were sparked by the unexplained death of young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini. The woman was detained by customs police for not covering her hair properly and, according to her family’s account, was subjected to torture, which contributed to her death.

In the interview, Zeebandeh Bychuk said Iranians are fed up with an Islamic government that exercises power by force and violence and does not respect basic human rights, and added that she envies Ukrainians their leaders: “I would like to see in my country someone like President Zelenski, who would care about his people, about his country.”

We also asked our guest whether these protests will contribute to the overthrow of the Ayatollahs’ regime in Iran.

Krzysztof Gwizdała in the Against the Tide TV

Our guest, Krzysztof Gwizdała, is the head of the apostazja.eu portal. We discussed the vision of Poland according to Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who recently stated that every patriotic Pole, even a non-believer, “must adopt a Christian system of values.” We asked our guest about whether Kaczynski’s words mean that we are slowly approaching a religious dictatorship, and what ideological future awaits Poland.

Report on the activities of the Association “Ku Dobrej Nadziei” (Towards Good Hope) from Bialystok

Helping the vulnerable – people without a home and those struggling with addiction – is the mission of the “Ku Dobrej Nadziei” Association from Bialystok. We have created a reportage that shows the activities of the association’s members: from providing a place to stay, to providing medical help, psychological support or organizing courses for the unemployed. They are in the process of building a training house for the homeless, and have further plans to build a center for people in crisis of homelessness, dependents.

Pastor Pawel Chojecki’s appeal hearing

The Court of Appeals in Lublin has scheduled a hearing in the case of Pastor Pavel Chojecki for November 22, 2022. On June 10, 2021, the court of first instance issued a non-final judgment sentencing the pastor to 8 months of restriction of liberty in the form of community service. This is the first case in Polish history in which a secular court has tried a Protestant pastor for criticizing Catholic dogma. According to the prosecutor’s office, Pastor Pawel Chojecki, editor-in-chief of the Against the Tide TV, offended the religious feelings of Catholics and insulted objects of Catholic religious honor with statements in line with Protestant theology.

WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON:

  • We are preparing for the fourth convention of the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin, which will be held already on November 12. This time the lectures will be given by Joe Losiak and Pastor Pawel Chojecki. At the convention we will analyze the specifics of the evangelistic successes of the Oasis movement and the contemporary evangelistic opportunities in Poland. We will also address the necessary characteristics of growing, obedient to Jesus churches and their pastors. The Institute’s upcoming convention will also be attended by guests from Croatia.
  • Joe Losiak is currently on a nationwide tour. Meetings are scheduled until November 20. You can find more details on our website: idzpodprad.pl
  • A missionary group from our church is going to the United States soon.
  • We are planning to expand the stage in our studio. A Christian patriotic concert will be held here in November

The hearing in Pastor Chojecki’s case has taken place! There is a court decision!

Today at 1:30 p.m. in Lublin an appeal hearing was held in the trial of Pastor Pawel Chojecki, editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV. The pastor of the New Covenant Church in Lublin is on trial for words – several sentences from sermons and other programs aired on the web TV he runs, which were disliked by a group of hecklers and the Law and Justice prosecution. The pastor was charged with insulting the religious feelings of Catholics, insulting Catholic objects of religious reverence, praising the initiation of a forward war against communist North Korea (sic!), and insulting the Polish Nation and the President of Poland. At today’s hearing, the appellate court adjourned the case until January 31, as the subsidiary accuser has submitted further recordings to show that Pastor Chojecki is continuing his activities (sic!). This is how Pastor Chojecki commented on the case:

That I continue my ministry is obvious, because I believe that in this way I serve my Lord Jesus Christ. I have been doing this for 40 years and I will not stop! I perceive the dragging out of the process as further harassment of me because of my religious beliefs!

Just for the record, the court of first instance sentenced Pastor Chojecki to eight months of restriction of liberty in the form of community service. In addition, the pastor must pay for the costs of the proceedings in the amount of almost 21 thousand zlotys.

Pastor Pawel Chojecki has repeatedly argued to the court that he did not mean to insult President Duda, whom he once voted for, but to provide constructive criticism to make the head of state reflect and fulfill his election promises. Pastor states that he used the terms „coward” and „traitor” after President Duda’s speech at the 2018 UN Security Council debate, when the latter did not openly talk about the Russian threat, but used the euphemism „third country.” „I used them in a broader context – adopting by Andrzej Duda a cowardly, in my opinion, attitude towards Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Thus, these terms are not intended to insult the president as a person, but are only a harsh criticism of his public activities.” – Pastor Chojecki said.

As a Protestant, he criticizes the dogmas of the Catholic Church, pointing out that they are incompatible with the Bible, and calls the other accusations cursory.

UPDATE: Pastor Chojecki’s trial. Appeal hearing adjourned!

On November 22 at 1:30 pm Polish time an appeal hearing will be held in the trial of Pastor Pawel Chojecki, editor-in-chief of Against the Tide TV. The pastor of the New Covenant Church in Lublin is on trial for words – a few sentences from sermons and other programs aired on the TV he runs, which were disliked by a group of haters and the Law and Justice prosecution. The court of first instance disrespected the right of a Polish citizen to freedom of speech and sentenced Pastor Chojecki to 8 months of restriction of liberty and reimbursement of trial costs. The state’s violation of freedom of speech and persecution for views is a problem for the whole society, but the journalistic community should be particularly vocal about it. We urge the media to be active in reporting on this case.

A few Polish Baptist and Lutheran pastors have already expressed their support for pastor Paweł Chojecki and their wishes for the good outcome of the trial.

Who really is pastor Paweł Chojecki?

POLITICAL TRIAL OF ANTI-COMMUNIST PASTOR IN POLAND!

Pastor Pawel Chojecki has for years led a unique project in Catholic Poland to show the relationship of God and the Bible with history and politics. Thanks to this, tens of thousands of Poles have heard the Gospel, hundreds have been converted and many Protestant churches have been planted. By doing so, he drew the wrath of the Catholic hierarchy, which is losing believers en masse in Poland today, and the Communists and their supporters in the Polish government, who do not want an informed, anti-communist society. The punishment of Pastor Chojecki’s Against the Tide TV was demanded by a press organ affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party, the Global Times. After a short time, the Prosecutor’s Office, led by a Catholic minister sympathetic to China, secretly began collecting “dirt” against the Pastor and charged him with bizarre “crimes.” The first conviction was handed down on June 10, 2021, and Pastor Chojecki’s appeal hearing was scheduled for November 22 of that year.

Paweł Chojecki is the pastor and founder of the New Covenant Church in Lublin, as well as the creator and editor-in-chief of the “Against the Tide” television, magazine and publishing house.

Since the 1980s (while still a student) he has been involved in the struggle against communism. Not only in Poland, but also in other countries. In 2018, Pastor Chojecki received a personal thank you from Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen for supporting Taiwan in its fight against Communist China.

“We’ve noticed many people are using #SayYesToTaiwan to show support for #Taiwan’s #democracy. Thank you! At a time when the shared values we hold dear are being challenged, we pledge to keep building a more democratic world. Please visit Taiwan & experience a free & open society.” a spokesman for the Office of the President of Taiwan wrote about the Against the Tide TV campaign.

Two years later, in 2020 after winning the election, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen again thanked for the support from foreign friends such as Pastor Pawel Chojecki and Against the Tide Television.

In the same year, after the outbreak of the Chinese virus pandemic, the Against the Tide TV community, together with Taiwan’s editor Hanna Shen, collected the 100,000 required signatures for a petition to the American president for compensation from Communist China for the spread of the coronavirus. This was recognized by Solomon Yue, head of Republicans Abroad and a member of the US Republican Party National Committee, who said: “I remember that you offered and sponsored the White House’s “We the People” petition for holding CCP accountable. This is a very important petition and you succeeded. For two reasons. One: free people working together to hold CCP fascists accountable. Two: that gives us an opportunity to push for reparations for the Wuhan virus damages to our nation, to our people.”

Pastor Pawel Chojecki’s free-wheeling, anti-communist activities have been recognized by the world’s largest anti-communist organization, the John Birch Society. In 2018, Pastor Chojecki gave two lectures at the 60th anniversary of JBS on the history of Poland and the modern struggle against communism and the incredible success of Against the Tide Television.

As is not hard to guess, the activities of Pastor Chojecki and Against the Tide were also noticed by the Chinese Communists. In September 2019, in the center of Warsaw, the Chinese attacked representatives of Against the Tide Television who were protesting outside the CCP embassy, where the 70th anniversary of the founding of Communist China was being celebrated.

A year earlier, in 2018, following the “Say Yes to Taiwan” media campaign launched by the Against the Tide community, the Chinese Communist Party’s press organ, Global Times, demanded an explanation from the Polish Embassy in Beijing concerned that Poland might be supporting Taiwan’s independence. In response to pressure from the Chinese Communists, the Polish Embassy issued a statement that read:

We would like to kindly inform you that due to the appearance of articles and comments in the Chinese media space on 30/10/2018 regarding the YouTube channel “Against the Tide TV” – The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beijing issued a statement to the concerned media with the following content:

Poland was one of the first countries in the world to recognize the PRC in October 1949, and has consistently followed the “One China” principle in its policy since then.
The Polish Embassy does not comment on the activities of YouTube users, as Poland is bound by the constitutional principle of freedom of expression.

Pastor Chojecki’s trial

For several years, there was much pseudo-dirt collected against him. Every minute of the live programs he participated in, including his sermons in his congregation, was vetted. A few sentences were taken out of context, and in December 2020 the Prosecutor’s Office accused him of offending the religious sensibilities of Catholics, insulting objects of Catholic religious worship, praising the initiation of a war of aggression against communist North Korea (sic!), and insulting the Polish nation and President of the Republic of Poland.

The trial was a farce, the haters, who attack and insult Protestant Christians, were presented in court as wronged Catholics. The basis of the first-instance court’s verdict was the opinion of an expert witness – Ph.D. Elżbieta Przybył-Sadowska of the Institute of Religious Studies at Jagiellonian University. The expert admitted that Pastor Chojecki’s statements fell within the standards of Protestant-Catholic religious dispute, however, she found offense in the form and style of the sermons. The problem is that in this area Ph.D. Przybyl-Sadowska is not an expert. As a religious scholar, she specializes in the history of the Orthodox churches…

On the other hand, the opinions of experts appointed by the Pastor’s attorney, Andrzej Turczyn, including three professors (Prof. Tadeusz Bartoś – former Dominican priest, philosopher, theologian, Prof. Krzystof Kilian – philosopher , Prof. Kazimierz Jodkowski – philosopher of science), were rejected.

On June 10, 2021, the District Court in Lublin sentenced Pastor Pawel Chojecki to 8 months of restriction of liberty in the form of community service in the amount of 20 hours per month, as well as reimbursement of the cost of the trial – more than 20 thousand zlotys (~ 5450 $ as of that day).

In response to the court’s verdict, four appeals were filed: three in defense of Pastor Pawel Chojecki and one filed by the Prosecutor’s Office, which seeks a suspended prison sentence. According to it, only a sentence of imprisonment and a fine will allow the proper realization of preventive and educational goals against Pastor Paweł Chojecki “and will take due account of the needs for shaping the legal consciousness of society.”

After a year and a half of the verdict of the District Court in Lublin, an appeal has been set – for November 22, 2022.

A well-known columnist, Eliza Michalik, a journalist for “Onet”, stated that “the case of Pastor Pawel Chojecki is an exceptionally shocking case and a litmus test of democracy!”

Joe Losiak, an American missionary of Polish descent, co-founder of the success of the Oasis Movement and associate of Father Franciszek Blachnicki, wrote:

“Pastor Pawel Chojecki is facing five years in prison in Poland for his historic criticism of the Roman Catholic Church in his sermons. If this attempt to silence and censor the pastor’s sermons is successful, it will greatly damage the cause of Christ and continue to keep millions in the dark. The first critic of the churches in the world was the Lord Jesus Christ Himself in Matthew 7:21-23 and the first three chapters of Revelation. You must also silence the apostles Peter, Paul, James, John and Jude in the New Testament. [Jan] Hus was burned by the city council. Luther also insulted politicians and priests. Jesus insulted religious and government authorities. I am raised in America and it is different here. God and nation are not one and the same. Jesus was crucified because he offended the religious feelings of the Jews who had the truth but disagreed with Jesus.”

Pastor Paweł Chojecki asks for prayer, not for a just verdict, which he does not hope for in Catholic-socialist Poland, but for this shameful case to help spread the Gospel of free salvation in Jesus and to lift millions of Poles out of darkness and superstition.
