“Poland was the first to help us and that’s why we want to start it with you!” – the rector of the largest Bible seminary in Ukraine and pastor Chojecki announce a joint project

“I have the privilege to announce that together with the Rector of the Bible Seminary in Irpin, dr. pastor Igor Yaremchuk, we have decided to establish a Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin,” pastor Paweł Chojecki announced on Against the Tide TV. “We want to open branches of our seminary where our students are scattered. Since Poland was the first to receive us, that’s why we want to start with you!” – rector Yaremchuk added.

During the Polish-Ukrainian Conference of Christians “Always ready!” in Lublin, pastor Igor Yaremchuk and pastor Paweł Chojecki decided to establish the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin under the patronage of the Bible Seminary in Irpin. “I have the privilege to announce that together with dr. pastor Igor Yaremchuk we have decided to establish the Polish-Ukrainian Bible Institute in Lublin. We will start classes on August 20 this year! Today, I invite you to contact me, soon we’ll give you more details. Praise God, He makes our dreams come true!” – said pastor Paweł Chojecki last Saturday.

Against the Tide (Idź Pod Prąd) TV on Twitter: “Megachurch Christian conference “Always Ready!” Great time, great guests, AND new project! 🫶🇵🇱🇺🇦 MORE: https://t.co/U0QpWRJpZf” / Twitter

Pastor Igor Yaremchuk on Against the Tide TV emphasized:

“Since the war started, millions of Ukrainians, including many students and professors of our seminary, have moved to many European countries. But these are not refugees, they are missionaries! We want to open branches of the seminary in Irpin where those people are scattered. Our dream is that such a branch will be established in Lublin. Praise God that pastor Paweł Chojecki and I decided to start this process. On the one hand, it will be about learning, on the other hand, it will be about building community. We can see that this can result in a closer bond between Polish and Ukrainian churches. We also want to open such branches in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Italy. But since Poland was the first to help us, that’s why we are starting in Poland!”

VIII Against the Tide TV Congress

In May, the VIII Against the Tide TV Congress “Poland and the world after the catastrophe” was held. The event was devoted to the current situation in Ukraine, and the prospect of a Polish-Ukrainian alliance or even a union. Our guests talked about how to organize the world after the war with Putin and what the effects of the war will be for the whole world. They also assessed the attitude of the states and their commitment to helping Ukraine, as well as the policy of communist China towards Russia’s aggression.

The speakers of the Congress were:

  • Gen. Benjamin Hodges, former commander of U.S. troops in Europe [video]
  • Kira Rudik, Chair of the Ukrainian Voice Party [video]
  • Manyan Ng, head of Epoch Times Europe [video]
  • Satoru Nagao, Hudson Institute expert [video]
  • Pavel Novotný, Czech politician
  • pastor Bob Kraft

Kira Rudik expressed her gratitude to the Poles for their help. She said she is very hopeful for the establishment of a Polish-Ukrainian alliance: “Kyiv started to be bombarded at 5 a.m. And at 6 p.m., Poland opened its borders to Ukrainian citizens so they can get to safety. You did not ask us any questions. You were that neighbor that, when you come back home and cry, knock on his door, he would open the door, give you a cup of tea, and you would talk. We would never, ever forget this. […] So with this new system that we will be putting together, moving forward after the catastrophe, after the crisis, after we win, I do believe that geographically, mentally, and physically, Ukraine, Poland, and Baltic countries will have to stay united, will have to have closer connections, and we’ll have to help to build the alliance, the effective alliance that would actually work.”

The main event of the Congress was the debate, which was divided into four panels: Security, Local Governments, Health Care and Education. It was attended by specialists from various fields: politicians, experts, doctors, editors, local government officials, and representatives of education.

The idea of the Polish-Ukrainian alliance was supported by the former Minister of Agriculture, chairman of the Council for Agriculture and Rural Areas, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski: “Strategic cooperation is needed in various areas, e.g. agriculture. If Ukraine perseveres, and may it do so, if Poland, Ukraine, and smaller countries in our part of Europe could unite – as President Zelensky also said in his message to the Polish National Assembly – then, as a matter of fact, it would be the Three Seas Initiative, but at the same time a strong counterweight to the Germans, to their domination, hegemony in this part of Europe. Now there is a chance for our region to stand out for independence. Poland and Ukraine can be absolute leaders in this change in the geopolitical situation.”

Conference of Pastors and Christian Leaders

In early May, we organized a conference of pastors and Christian leaders under the slogan: “Evangelization of Poles and Ukrainians at the time of dynamic cultural and international changes”. We talked about the response of evangelical Christian circles to the changes taking place and how to use the openness of hearts resulting from the war in Ukraine in evangelization. In Lublin, we hosted pastors and Christian leaders from Poland and Ukraine, who want to look together for new opportunities to reach Poles and Ukrainians with the gospel. The special guest of the conference was Joe Łosiak, co-founder of the oasis movement, and associate of Fr. Franciszek Blachnicki.

The result of the conference was a joint letter in which pastors supported the initiative of President Zelensky and other politicians to strengthen relations between Poland, Ukraine, and other countries in our region. The letter was signed by pastors: Paweł Chojecki, Radosław Kopeć, Paweł Machała, and Michał Fałek from the New Covenant Church in Lublin, pastor Henryk Skrzypkowski from the Baptist Church in Chełm, pastor Ireneusz Dawidowicz from the “Way of Salvation” Congregation of the Baptist Church in Poland, pastor Andrey Hlopkov from the Church of God “Grace of Christ” in Krakow, pastor Oleksandr Moroz from the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Warsaw and Joe Łosiak.

Robert Makłowicz on Against the Tide TV

We talked to Robert Makłowicz, a well-known Polish food critic, writer, and traveler. We asked him if he believed in the possibility of an alliance between Poland and Ukraine and the entire Three Seas Initiative.

We also talked about the myth of a Pole-Catholic and the contribution of Protestants to Polish culture. We also remembered the time of the Republic of Poland, its tolerance, and its great traditions.

Robert Makłowicz said: “Our past is the Republic of many nations, many religions, and many cultures. Regardless of where we come from in Poland, we are the heirs of this ‘multi’ tradition. I perceive Polish culture as a collection resembling a stained glass window.  If we put one piece of glass in the frame, then it will no longer be stained glass, but an ordinary glass. However, stained glass is a much more complex and beautiful construction.”

Verdict in the case of Bartłomiej Pankowiak

The District Court in Kalisz issued a verdict in the case of Bartłomiej Pankowiak, the victim of priest Arkadiusz H. The Kalisz Curia is to pay the victim PLN 300,000 in compensation.

Artur Nowak commented: “We feel satisfaction, but not entirely, because the court did not fully accept our demand. It is important for us, for Bartek and Jakub, that the principle of responsibility has been decided. The court in the oral justification of the verdict said that this is not a fight with the Church, but a fight for the Church, for a healthy Church, and the plaintiffs, i.e. the Pankowiak brothers, were the precursors of this good cause. They set an example, starting with the fact that they showed their faces in the movie, and spoke about their trauma, but also by applying for reparation, they became the precursors of the purification of this Church.”

Cardinal Zen arrested!

On May 11, the Chinese authorities arrested Cardinal Joseph Zen from Hong Kong. Along with him, a group of people supporting a foundation created in 2019 to help protesters in Hong Kong was detained. The cardinal supported Hong Kong’s independence efforts, publicly criticized the Vatican’s agreement with the Chinese Communists, and called communism itself a “diabolical system”.

After the White House intervened, the Cardinal was quickly released on bail. However, he still faces imprisonment.

“The lack of a decisive response by Pope Francis to the arrest of Cardinal Zen, the retired bishop of Hong Kong, by the Chinese Communists, is a shame and a disgrace,” said Hanna Shen, a correspondent for Against the Tide TV in Taiwan.

Christian Congress

This month we organized a Christian conference, special guests of which were Joe and Anna Łosiak, missionaries from the USA. The program of the convention included e.g. a meeting with young people, a concert by Joe Łosiak, a series of lectures by Joe and Anna, and a Q&A session. We also invited our guests to a program about whether the “revolution of Jesus” in Poland is possible.

We also talked to Anna Łosiak about the lights and shadows of homeschooling.

Joe Łosiak also gave us a Sunday Sermon “If not Mass, what?”

Pastors for the alliance of Poland and Ukraine, and the Three Seas Initiative

Polish and Ukrainian pastors in a joint letter support the initiative of Mr. President Zelensky and other politicians who have spoken on the tightening of the relations of Poland, Ukraine and other countries of the region. Join them and sign the statement!

We, the undersigned pastors and members of the Christian churches in Poland and Ukraine, express great joy and gratitude to God for the tremendous changes that are taking place before our very eyes in the relations between our nations. As a result of the tragedy of the war that Russia started by attacking Ukraine, we have experienced a renewal of fraternal relations between Poles and Ukrainians, we experienced openness of hearts and solidarity. Together, we also think about the future. We strongly support the initiatives of Ukrainian and Polish politicians who talk about further strengthening our relations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik, and advisor to President Andrzej Duda, Minister Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, have talked about the need for an alliance of Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and perhaps other countries of the Three Seas area. The need to take our state relations to a new level stems both from our history, our culture, our centuries-old brotherhood, and from the experience of the same threats, which we are not able to overcome alone. Together, we can play a historic role in restoring peace, stability, and prosperity for our region and for Europe as a whole.

We pray that God will continue to open our hearts and minds, give wisdom to our people, and cause generosity, mutual respect, and fraternal love in us. We ask God to give our politicians and rulers an awareness of the historical changes taking place right now and a vision of the future under His will.

President Volodymyr Zelensky (11 March 2022 to the Polish National Assembly)

“On February 24, this terrible tomorrow began for Ukraine, about which President Kaczyński spoke. And today, we are fighting to ensure that there is no such bad time for the Baltic States and Poland anymore. We fight together because we have the strength. Let us remember: together there are 80 million of us, together we can do everything. This is a historic mission for Poland and Ukraine to be leaders, to be together, to pull Europe out of this abyss, out of this threat. So that Europe does not become a victim. Ladies and gentlemen, we can do that. Yesterday, we saw how and what the EU countries were talking about, we saw who is the real leader and who is fighting for a united Europe, for common European security, and who tried to stop us, who tried to stop you.”

“Brothers and sisters, Poles, I feel that we have already built an extraordinary alliance, although informal for the time being, but it is an alliance that has its roots in reality, it is not just on a piece of paper. It is an alliance that comes from the warmth of our hearts, not from pseudo-politicians at the top.”

Kira Rudik (for Against the Tide TV, 6.05.2022)

“So with this new system that we will be putting together, moving forward after the catastrophe, after the crisis, after we win, I do believe that geographically, mentally, physically, Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic countries will have to stay united, will have to have closer connections and we will have to build an alliance. An effective alliance that will actually work.”

“…I do believe that we have to form an alliance that is modern, rapid, it can be true to itself, that can actually execute”

“I do believe that the path that we had together is actually the thing that is pushing us towards the future that we need to have together. I do believe that Ukraine will join the European Union, and we will be able to make those changes that are needed to be done for it to be effective. And I do believe that the new security Alliance – we need to base it on the Baltic countries and Ukraine and Poland together. ”

Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski (for Against the Tide TV, 6.05.2022)

„If Ukraine wins, if God allows, then – as President Zelensky also said in his message to the Polish National Assembly – if Poland, Ukraine, and those smaller countries that in our part of Europe are looking for a place for themselves in geopolitics, if all this could be combined, the Three Seas Initiative that is, then at the same time it will be a strong counterweight to the Germans, to their domination, hegemony in this part of Europe. […] Now there is a chance for this part of Europe to reach out for independence. Poland and Ukraine can be absolute leaders in this change in the geopolitical situation.”

“We are at a certain historical moment […] let us support each other and in this way, we can change the situation in our part of Europe for generations.”

Russians call me the Bloody Pastor – Oleksandr Turchynov on IPP TV

The Russians call me the Bloody Pastor! In 2014 I decided to start an Anti-Terrorist Operation in Donbass. The most important thing is that God is with us, with Him we can defeat any enemy! – Oleksandr Turchynov, former Acting President of Ukraine, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, and former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, was a guest on Go Against the Tide Television. Turchynov is also a preacher at the Protestant Christian Baptist Church and a soldier in the Territorial Defense. Interviewed by editor Tymoteusz Chojecki.

“Eight years ago it was I who made the decision to launch the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Donbass, in the east of Ukraine, to prevent the aggression of the Russian Federation. […] It all started in 2014. At that time I was addressing our partners, strategic partners in the US and in Europe. I said that the aggression that began then was not an aggression against Ukraine, but against the entire civilized world,” Oleksandr Turchynov says and adds:

“I asked the West for help at that time – to provide us with the necessary things, to sell them to us. However, we received nothing from them, not a single bullet. They didn’t even give us helmets or vests in 2014. At the time, they said that if they provided us with something, they would irritate Russia. They didn’t want to do that, hoping that Russia would calm down and stop. But that was when the time was right to break Russia and support Ukraine. Because this was not done in 2014, this spiral of aggression, the spiral of warfare spun and led to a war on such a large scale, in 2022.”

Nevertheless, the Ukrainian politician does not doubt that Ukraine will prevail in this war with God’s help:

“We are able to win on the battlefield – because we have faith and trust in our strength. And most importantly, God is with us. And if God is with us, then there is no enemy that we couldn’t defeat.”

Turchynov is not only a politician, but he also serves in Ukraine’s Territorial Defense and is a preacher in a Protestant church:

“Russians call me the Bloody Pastor. But now I don’t serve as a pastor, although I do preach, I am a preacher, but to be a pastor you have to devote yourself completely and all other activities have to be discarded.”

As he says in the interview, by trusting in God, soldiers are ready to sacrifice their lives to defend their homeland and compatriots:

“It is very important that people do not simply go to their death, but that they understand that when they give their lives, they express the highest level of love. This is what the Bible says. There are many strong believers among Ukrainians. A true believer is not afraid of death because he knows that he has eternal life. And a true believer is more courageous and also more responsible. I am convinced that now many people are turning to God, under the influence of the circumstances. I have seen how soldiers before going into battle – when they take risks, when they face the risk of death – turn to God. And this is a normal human behavior.”

The Ukrainian politician also explained why he believes Christians should be active in politics:

“In Ukraine and in other countries, many Protestants thought that politics is dirty and not worth getting involved in. Dirty politics is done by dirty people. But if dirty people don’t deal with it, it won’t be dirty. I think Christians have even a duty to participate in politics to clean it up. Because when you act for a good cause, God is with you. And when politics has God’s blessing, the country has God’s blessing, such a land will always be victorious and flourishing. Politics will be pure if pure people are involved in it. So I always encourage Christians – go and do important things. Politics, honest politics, pure politics, is a very important thing.

Oleksandr Turchynov warmly thanked for the support shown to Ukrainians by Poles:

“I would like to sincerely thank our Polish brothers and sisters, our Polish friends, for this real help they’ve been giving us. It’s political help, a strong pro-Ukrainian stance in the European Union, it’s also military help. And of course helping our wives and children who have been forced to flee Ukraine to save their lives. We know how many of our people are now in Poland and we know how much help they have received.

Evangelical Christians from Poland support the Ukrainian people and President Zelensky! [SIGN THE LETTER]

Evangelical Christians in Poland have engaged in active help since day one to the Ukrainian nation treacherously attacked by Russia. Many Christians have taken care of Ukrainian women and children at the very border. In Protestant churches, accommodation centers and help points have been established. Many pastors engage in the collection of gifts and their transfer to Ukraine. Every day, with our prayers, we embrace the suffering and fight of Ukrainians and we ask God for a total victory for Ukraine, which alone defends the entire Free World. Today, we are launching another initiative of evangelical Christians. The letter to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has already been signed by pastors of the New Covenant Church in Lublin (Paweł Chojecki, Radosław Kopeć, Paweł Machała, Michał Fałek) and pastor Ireneusz Dawidowicz from the “Way of Salvation” Congregation of the Baptist Church in Poland and many Christians. Encourage your church to get involved!

An open letter to Mr. President Volodymyr Zelensky
March 25, 2022, Lublin

Dear Mr. President of the wonderful and heroic Ukrainian Nation!

We evangelical Christians look with great admiration, prayer, and real support of many of our churches at the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people against Russian barbarism. We admire your Nation’s devotion to your homeland, your unity in the face of Russia’s aggression, and your concern for your women, children, and the elderly. We assure you that especially Ukrainian orphans, widows, and others in need will continue to be provided with our necessary help until the complete victory over Putin’s criminal Russia. We will ask God for peace for Ukraine, but not peace by capitulating and accepting Russian domination, but by victory over the Evil Empire!

We would also like to express our special gratitude to you, Mr. President, for you being an example of risking your own life and inspiring your Nation to do extraordinary deeds that make Ukraine being praised all over the world.

These actions also give all people oppressed by communists and tyrants hope that even in an almost hopeless situation we can overcome Evil with God’s help. We also express our highest appreciation for the combat craftsmanship, bravery, and moral attitude on the battlefield for every Ukrainian soldier!

We hope that thanks to your extraordinary witness, Christians around the world will abandon the naïve thinking of passively yielding to evil and will mobilize themselves to clear and uncompromising advocacy for Truth, Good, and Life.

Fake news of the Russian narrative about the orphans of Mariupol

Recently, several media have published texts about Ukrainian children who were brought as refugees to Kazimierz Dolny by a group of Americans, Ukrainians and Poles. Unfortunately, some Polish media are fueling the atmosphere of scandal around this case and repeating many rumors and lies about the Americans who helped the orphans of Mariupol, saving them from the war. Below we present a retort to the texts published by Gazeta Wyborcza, Dziennik Wschodni and Radio TOK FM. At the same time, we appeal to journalists to report honestly and reliably on the situation.

I. Gazeta Wyborcza

Title: “Children from the orphanage in Mariupol living in Kazimierz. A storm on the web: They want to take them to the U.S., human trafficking”

Author: Piotr Kozłowski

Comments and corrigenda:

  1. “They want to take them to the U.S., human trafficking.”

The title falsely communicates that there is a plan to commit a crime and harm the children. In fact, the Americans took the children not to the United States, but from the war ground – from the bombed Mariupol – to a safe Poland. They do not trade children, on the contrary, sacrificing their time and risking their lives, the Americans save them completely for free,

Pastor Matthew Shea has been awarded many medals for the fight against terrorism. He is a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Bosnia. He has won the following awards: NATO Medal (2000), Medal for Achievement – several times, Commendation Medal – several times, Armed Forces Expedition Medal (2000), Medal for Glorious Service (2005), Order of Saint Maurice (2005), Bronze Star (2005), Expeditionary War on Terror Medal (2005). Pastor Shea’s Church has an organization that fights human trafficking, among others they made a film about it.

  1. “Internet users, however, write that children are to be taken to the United States and even sold. There are formulations about the purpose of their organs for transplantation. The entries also mentioned that they can be placed in brothels. Some of the entries have already disappeared.”

The author reproduces the slander and leaves without comment. The reader is left with the impression that “something is up”, instead of getting reliable information from the journalist that these are unfounded rumors. Would criminals report their activities openly on the Internet? Would they invite the consul of Ukraine to check if everything is in order? Would they involve many people they don’t know from all walks of life? Would they risk a personal trip to the bombed country? Would they count on the fact that no one in Poland would check the legality of their activities related to the care of over sixty children? The journalist, however, did not deign to express these or similar reflections showing the absurdity of the allegations of Internet trolls.

  1. “Far-right” Pastor Matt Shea, who allegedly called for “killing non-Christian men if war breaks out, and they refuse to uphold fundamentalist biblical law.”

It is nothing but a vile insinuation and building a false narrative about allegedly shady pastors. Pastor Shea emphasizes that this is a false allegation and adds, “I actually trained and taught American soldiers exactly the opposite.” The facts are that while serving in the U.S. Army, which is known for modeling the Christian ethos, he was repeatedly awarded, m.in the Medal for Glorious Service or the Medal of Praise several times. Reproduction of nonsense from Wikipedia is not the best proof of the technique of the journalist of “Wyborcza”.

Nor is it true that Matthew Shea was removed from his position as chairman of the Republican Club in the Washington State House. Elections were held, on the normal date, and another person was elected to this position.

  1. Cooperation with Pastor Paweł Chojecki is presented as something suspicious. The terms “controversial figure”, “known for his far-right views” – evoke the image of a dangerous fascist – and we are simply talking about a man who loves Jesus and lives according to conservative values springing from the Bible.

In fact, Pastor Chojecki heads the Against the Tide Television, which is known for advocating for an alliance of Poland, the United States, and Israel, makes documentaries about beautiful Polish-Jewish history, about the Righteous Among the Nations, and among the hundreds of guests of The Against the Tide Television there are characters from all worldview options in Poland – e.g. Rev. Prof. Andrzej Kobyliński, Jarosław Makowski, Artur Nowak, dr Bartłomiej Wróblewski, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, Bogdan Borusewicz, prof. Magdalena Środa, Eliza Michalik, Krzysztof Wyszkowski, rev. dr Leszek Gęsiak (spokesman of the Polish Episcopal Conference), ed. Piotr Pytlakowski, ed. Jerzy Haszczyński, Mayor of Poznań Jacek Jaśkowiak.

By the way, the author repeats the slander that appeared during the trial of Pastor Chojecki, as if he said about the Polish nation that “Poles are nits” – which in fact was an opinion only about a certain subgroup of malicious people from Poland. The author also wrote that Pastor Chojecki “was convicted” – although the verdict in his trial is invalid, which in practice means that he is innocent in the light of the law, as said in IPP TV by attorney Michał Hara from the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights. Appeals have been filed against the verdict, the case is not resolved.

  1. The term “sect”, denigrating the Church of the New Covenant in Lublin presented as a quote from the statement of Senator Jacek Bury, who left the KNP a long time ago.

It is not true that Senator Jacek Bury today describes the Church of the New Covenant in Lublin as a sect. Recently, a court in Warsaw ordered another entity, TVP Info, to apologize to the KNP in Lublin for calling it a cult in one of the publications on the website. KNP in Lublin is a church formally registered and operating by the law.

  1. The author of “Wyborcza” claims that the website of the organization Loving Homes and Families for Orphans “has not been working for several days”.

The organization’s website at http://lovingfho.com is in operation and was in operation in the days leading up to the publication of the article.

  1. After more than half of the article written in the spirit of scandal and suspicion, it turns out that the author knows, however, that various entities have carried out many checks on this matter – and all of them have shown that there are no shortcomings, everything is in order. The author himself finally quotes information that nothing disturbing was stated: the police, the consulate of Ukraine, the District Family Assistance Center, the deputy mayor, the starost and the voivode of Lublin. So why give internet hate speech the rank of information that incites legitimate anxiety?
  2. “[…] in an interview with ‘Wyborcza’, the president of HF [Homo Faber] Anna Dąbrowska said that the foundation has no connection with the case […]”.

Volunteers of the Homo Faber Foundation (which operates the telephone number of helping Ukrainians, acting under the President of Lublin), helped in finding a place in the Journalist’s House in Kazimierz Dolny.

II. Dziennik Wschodni

Title: “Lubelskie. Ukrainian orphans under the care of a pastor-radical” [earlier version of the title: “Lubelskie. Ukrainian orphans under the care of a pastor-radical. A sect?” – in this form it remained on the newspaper’s Twitter profile, the editors did not withdraw from the campaign.]

Author: Radosław Szczęch

Comments and corrigenda:

  1. “Pastor-radical” and “sect” – an unfounded insinuation that Ukrainian children ended up in the hands of a dangerous man and a suspicious organization. Dziennik Wschodni removed the word “sect” from the title, but did not back down from the bashing of Americans and left the old version of the title on its Twitter profile.

As Pastor Shea points out in response to the allegations, “It is not true that I preach radical religious views, my church’s creed is consistent with the recognized dogmas of mainstream Protestant churches.” The text in the Eastern Daily is therefore an expression of intolerance for the standard views of Protestant Christians.

  1. “Official controls are not liked by the Americans” – the suggestion that they have something to hide.

As the Americans retort: “We did not like the behavior of a person who did not want to identify themselves and demanded access to the children.” In addition, they criticized the creation of a situation in which the inspections were carried out in such a way they aroused fear in children.

  1. “Unknown persons from the USA”.

These are people well known to the Ukrainian side, they have been helping the Mariupol orphanage to find new Ukrainian families for children in the USA for years.

  1. The lie that Pastor Shea wrote about “biblical permission to kill infidels.”

See the answer in the part of the retort concerning Gazeta Wyborcza, point 3 above.

  1. Information about the proceedings of the prosecutor’s office – a suggestion that the allegation of illegal adoption and trafficking in human beings has some basis.

In fact, the activities of Pastor Shea and the American organization looking for homes for orphans are carried out legally, the procedures are carried out in cooperation with the governments of the USA and Ukraine and with the required court approvals.

  1. Quoting a person who undermines Americans’ right to childcare and expresses the opinion that they “do what they want with them” because they gave the orphanage some “donations”.

The right to care was granted to the Americans by the Ukrainian side, which in this case decides what the author knows because he himself quotes the statement of the Lublin voivode on this subject. Americans are connected to the orphanage much more strongly than through “donations” and do not do with children “what they want”, but what it takes to keep them safe and well-groomed. Every day, dozens of volunteers from the New Covenant Church in Lublin and from among the residents of Kazimierz Dolny and the surrounding area help the Americans in caring for the children.

  1. Quoting a false suggestion that “persons invoking the American foundation have so far failed to provide documents confirming its registration.”

These documents were and are available online, e.g. at: https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_tx/0803077637

  1. The final statement that there are no answers to some important questions.

An absurd sentence after numerous checks carried out in this case by the police and other entities authorized to do so. Pastor Shea responds, “An appropriate explanatory statement has been published and we have answered all the questions from the local authorities.”

III. Radio TOK FM

Title: “A controversial pastor from the USA deals with orphans from Mariupol in a Lublin center. The case is being investigated by the family court.”

Author: Anna Gmiterek-Zabłocka

Comments and corrigenda:

  1. “Controversial pastor” and “the case is being investigated by the court.”

An unfounded suggestion that children are being taken care of by someone dangerous, or even that something bad has already happened.

  1. Invoking the opinion of the “media” that Pastor Shea was accused of “indoctrinating young people and radicalizing their views.”

As the pastor responds, “It is not true that I indoctrinate young people and radicalize their views, the profession of faith of my church is consistent with the recognized dogmas of mainstream Protestant churches.”

  1. A quote from a person calling the American organization a “random organization from abroad” and suggesting that Americans are acting against the local law. Presenting this person in a position of authority (“adoption and foster care researcher who has been dealing with this topic for years”).

The right to custody of children is confirmed by the Ukrainian side. In addition: “It is not true that ‘children in custody have been taken over by a random organization.’ We did not take care of the children after they arrived in Kazimierz Dolny, but we brought them to Kazimierz from Ukraine, and the organization Loving Families and Homes for Orphans is not ‘random’, but cooperated with the orphanage in Mariupol before the war and was asked by the management to help evacuate children from Ukraine.” On the spot, direct care for children is also provided by two caregivers from the orphanage in Mariupol.

  1. “I am afraid that this is some illegal way to transport children without control, bypassing procedures – adds psychotherapist Joanna Stefańska.”

Numerous audits have been carried out by various entities. None of them showed any irregularities. The author knows this because she writes about it later in the text. However, she decided to include in the text information that the psychotherapist was “afraid”. As a result, it sows in readers the suspicion that something bad may be happening.

  1. False information: “When I try to find some documents of this organization, which currently deals with children, it turns out that it was supposed to be registered only three weeks ago” – quoted uncritically by the author.

Registration was made in 2018. Documents are available, for example, at: https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_tx/0803077637.

  1. Insinuations of anonymous psychologists: “It is not only about the documents here, but about what is communicated, told to these children and where, and why they are to end up.”

The actions of the Americans are transparent, the fears of psychologists quoted anonymously are based on rumors and slander. Informing readers that someone has disturbing feelings if they can’t give legitimate reasons for the condition is irresponsible.

  1. “One of the lawyers from Warsaw notified the Family Court in Puławy about the case.”

But what is his accusation about? What are the grounds for this, what justification does it have? Was the author of the report at the Court on the spot in Kazimierz, or does he only reproduce Internet gossip and Russian propaganda? We don’t know. Certainly, asking these questions would not help to fuel the atmosphere of scandal. Unfortunately, the author of the article does not provide this information.

  1. Another orphanage refused to come to Poland. “This happened because of the information that appeared on social networks about the American organization.”

Such a formulation may suggest that the Ukrainian institution is afraid that something is wrong with the American organization. In fact, the reason for giving up aid in Poland was the fear that another orphanage would be used by Russian propaganda.

Ukrainian orphanage resigns of fleeing to Poland as result of Russian propaganda against American aid

A smearing campaign targeted at a group of Americans who have rescued Ukrainian kids from an orphanage in Mariupol, Ukraine, caused another Ukraininan orphanage to resign of accepting such help. The children from Vinnytsia, Ukraine, will stay in the country despite their lives being threatened. “They’d rather risk Russian bombs in Ukraine than be a tool in Russian propaganda here in Poland,” said pastor Matthew Shea, representing the Loving Families and Homes for Orphans organization. “Only Russian-style propaganda could turn a rescue mission of orphans into something bad,” he added.

Watch the interview with pastor Matthew Shea

The campaign of harassing the kids rescued from the Ukrainian orphanage thanks to the cooperation of American, Ukrainian and Polish volunteers has been on for several days. It’s accompanied by a smearing campaign aimed at those who have been helping the kids. The police have entered the premises of the resort-like facility in Kazimierz Dolny, Poland, where children are staying for times already, jeopardizing kids’ well-being. Preposterous rumors are being spread about the Americans who are said to be trying to smuggle the kids illegally, planning to sell them for organ harvesting. The slanderous rumors, making use of some false information from Wikipedia, have already caused another Ukrainian orphanage, in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, to resign of being evacuated to Poland.

We are calling journalists to write the truth about the situation to stop treating the rescuers as criminals.

Pastor Matthew Shea is an active member of the American organization “Loving Families and Homes for Orphans” which has been helping to adopt Ukrainian orphans by Ukrainian families in the USA. Adoption procedures have been carried out in cooperation with both American and Ukrainian governments and are authorized by courts. When the war broke out, the children from the Mariupol orphanage asked Americans for help and they were rescued. Another rescue mission has been planned, namely to rescue some orphans from Vinnytsia. Some of the rescued kids have already visited the USA and have found adopting families there. The adoption procedures required a Ukrainian court authorization which is not possible in the current situation. Americans did not leave the orphans at the mercy of Russian invaders, though. They took care of them, evacuating the kids to a safe place in Poland. And now the Russian propaganda is trying to smear the rescuers as criminals.

Pastor Shea is a lawyer. He’s been elected to the House of Representatives four times. Before that he served in the army for 10 years. He was deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina , Iraq and Kuwait. He left the army in the rank of a captain. As a soldier he was awarded with several medals: Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, NATO Medal, Order of St. Maurice, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and others. In recognition of the service to his country pastor Shea was awarded with: Guardian of Small Business (2012), Defender of Freedom Award (2013), National Security Eagle Award (2015), State Representative of the Year (2015) and others.

Pastor Shea about his involvement in rescuing Ukrainian orphans in the face of the Russian invasion:

“When you have children in very dire distress, and they’re asking for help, you go and help. […] Unfortunately, there have been some elements here in Poland that have been helping to disrupt the humanitarian relief we’re providing to the orphans with lies and rumors. What’s very unfortunate about this situation is that those lies and rumors right now are preventing another orphanage from coming to Poland. They’re saying, “We would rather risk the Russian bombs in Ukraine than be a tool in Russian propaganda here in Poland.” […] The most outrageous rumor is that we want to sell the children for organ harvesting. This is Russian-style propaganda. And only Russian-style propaganda could turn a rescue mission of orphans into something bad.”

The American pastor emphasized,

“The Ukrainian consul representative came to the facility (in Kazimierz Dolny), he saw the facility and he stamped with an acknowledgement […] there is no objection to the facility. […] There’s rumor out there that we ran through the woods in the middle of the night while we went through the Polish border checkpoint.”

Pastor Shea pointed out that harassing the evacuated Ukrainian children is breaking international law.

“The Fourth Geneva Convention very clearly addresses this issue: when there are two warring parties, they must allow for children to be evacuated to a friendly neutral country. […] Slander, attacks clearly violate the spirit behind this international law.”

Pastor Paweł Chojecki, editor-in-chief of the Go Against the Tide TV commented the situation:

“The hate campaign […] has reached Poles living in the USA and pastor Matt Shea’s friends. I don’t think the whole thing is spontaneous, as nobody gets such broad reach with a stupid post on the Internet. […] This is a deliberate action aimed at harming the humanitarian aid for the children from Ukraine and disuniting Poles and Americans as well as pushing away volunteers.”

Pastor Chojecki made an appeal to honest journalists:

“I really hope some honest journalist will turn up and, instead of escalating the hatred and treating heroes as criminals, they will write the truth. […] “Write the truth for the sake of the well-being of the over sixty children saved from Putin’s shells and bombs!”
